Chapter 058: Thinking Too Highly of Yourself?

Ye Zhen had intended to keep running.

But He Ying seemed to sense her unease and had picked up on her subtle thoughts. She stuck to her like glue, refusing to leave her side—even accompanying her to the bathroom.

"Since you're here, you might as well make yourself at home. Little sister, the least I can do is show you some hospitality and express my gratitude, right?"

Ye Zhen pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

"Come on! No more sleeping under bridges—let's go to my family's guesthouse."

He Ying was also spoiled. Though she enjoyed watching boxing matches, she’d never trained herself and lacked stamina.

She lugged Ye Zhen's suitcase, panting and puffing, yet stubbornly refused to let Ye Zhen lift a finger.

To assert her authority as the older sister, she had to grit her teeth, put on a brave face, and push herself harder!

After entering a guesthouse.

Ye Zhen hurried toward the shared bathroom.

Before she could even unbutton her pants, He Ying rushed in behind her.

She didn't seem to think twice, immediately starting to pull off her skirt to change into clean clothes. It was the height of summer, and after lugging her suitcase all this way, her clothes were already soaked through with sweat, clinging uncomfortably to her skin. How could that feel good?

"Miss He, wait! You… you… turn around!"

Caught completely off guard by the sight, Ye Zhen was both shocked and mortified, quickly covering her eyes.

"Go… go… go next door! Please go next door!"

He Ying frowned in confusion. "What's the matter? I'm not a man. Why are you so embarrassed?"

"I… I… Oh, it's just… I can't pee with you here!"

He Ying laughed. "Is it really that exaggerated? I don't believe it."

"Get out already!"

Ye Zhen was practically beside herself with frustration.

Her fierce tone, paired with that adorable face, failed to intimidate her in the slightest.

"Miss He! Please, just get out first! I'll be quick!"

"Okay, okay. You go ahead and pee. Call me when you're done."

He Ying emerged from the bathroom, cupping her face in a silly grin, wearing an expression that screamed, "Go ahead and scold me more—I love hearing it!"

Woo-ee-ee, little sister is so adorable!

Adult lolis are the best!

Of course, she still couldn't quite grasp what exactly had upset Ye Zhen.

Isn't it normal for girls to go to the bathroom together? Besides, she hadn't seen anything anyway.

Even if she had…

They're all girls—what's the big deal?

In public bathhouses, people even scrub each other's backs!

Though she didn't understand, He Ying chose to respect her feelings.

After Ye Zhen adjusted her skirt and emerged from the restroom, He Ying smiled and asked, "What do you feel like eating for lunch? It's on me."

"No appetite. I just want to sleep."

Ye Zhen took a deep breath and reached out to grab her suitcase, only to have it firmly held back by the other person.

He Ying smiled gently. "Since you're tired, let's rest first. Come on, I'll take you to your room."

She escorted Ye Zhen to the door of the room with the best view, but showed no intention of handing over the suitcase.

Ye Zhen stared at the suitcase and clenched her teeth.

Had she just escaped one danger only to walk into another?

Sigh~

If necessary, she'd sacrifice the car to save the general.

After entering the room, Ye Zhen decisively shut the door.

Lying on the plush bed, her body ached from exhaustion, yet sleep eluded her completely.

Her phone remained switched off, leaving her completely out of contact… She wondered if chaos had erupted at the Ye residence, or if Ye Fuli had done something reckless?

The thought of Ye Fuli sent a sharp pang through Ye Zhen's heart.

"Maybe she hates me to death now? No, that can't be. I've always been good. I gave her position back to her and took almost nothing with me… She'll only hate me for a while, then forget me and start her new life."

Ye Zhen murmured to herself, then suddenly chuckled.

"Maybe I always think too highly of myself. In truth, I'm just a minor villain with barely any screen time, destined to exit the stage early."

……

Sitting on the sofa downstairs, sucking on a lollipop and playing with her phone, He Ying received a call from Ye Fuli.

Ye Fuli knew her capabilities. Finding someone was practically nothing for He Ying—the He family had both overt and covert means at their disposal.

So much time had passed; it was impossible for He Ying to have no leads whatsoever.

Ye Fuli's voice was cold over the phone. "Miss He, you haven't been sitting on leads and keeping them from me, have you?"

He Ying felt a chill run down her spine at those words.

Damn, she really was K1.

She'd guessed the truth instantly.

But out of loyalty to her savior, He Ying merely chuckled twice. "Wow, don't treat me like some kind of god! Finding someone takes time, doesn't it? I've already sent people out to look. Just be patient and wait."

Ye Fuli's expression remained impassive. "You know what happens when you lie to me, right?"

"Hey! Don't go threatening me with that stuff all the time, okay? We won't be friends or business partners if you keep it up."

The voice on the other end was smooth as silk.

Ye Fuli disliked such slippery types, but for now, she had no choice but to endure and play along, leveraging his connections and methods.

"I'll give you one more day," Ye Fuli softened her tone. "If you still have no leads after that, our partnership ends."

He Ying looked thoroughly annoyed but still managed to say, "Got it."

After hanging up, she bit down hard on the lollipop in her hand, making a crunching sound.

Money or a benefactor—which mattered more?

Of course, the benefactor was more important!

But the thought of losing Ye Fuli, her cash cow, sent waves of anguish through He Ying's heart.

"Ah~!"

She pounded the small throw pillow on the sofa with all her might.

"Damn Ye Fuli! Why did you have to set your sights on my savior?"

Ye Fuli stepped off the bus, suitcase in hand.

The unfamiliar town exuded a desolate nighttime atmosphere everywhere.

She scanned the horizon and soon spotted a wide river and a bridge shrouded in darkness and mist.

A bridge arch stood not far from where she was.

Seeing that spot, Ye Fuli couldn't help but recall Ye Zhen from her past life—and Ye Zhen's final fate.

That pampered young lady had ultimately perished in the bridge archway.

Cause of death: unknown.

Driven by hatred, the Ye Fuli of her previous life had paid little attention to the news of her death.

But now, recalling how she had humbled herself before her, and the bleak, resolute look in her eyes before leaving, Ye Fuli felt a deep unease in her heart.

How could someone so young and full of life just… die like that…?

Perhaps there really was some incurable illness within her body?

Ye Fu Li's thoughts returned to the medicine Ye Zhen had secretly taken, leaving her with an even heavier heart.

Even the deepest hatred pales in the face of death.

Ye Fuli forced herself to suppress the turmoil within as she walked toward the dark bridge tunnel:

"Ye Zhen! Are you there? Come out now, and I won't hit you!"

"Ye Zhen! Are you still alive?"

"You idiot Ye Zhen, if you're alive, just say something!"
