CHAPTER 492
Memory Fragments from Another World—Redemption Angel (Part Two)
============================================================

This was Bingling's most beloved man, yet he betrayed her.

It was also this man who had sworn before a sea of soldiers that even if the entire world doubted her, Su Cheng would always believe her.

She had always believed this with unwavering conviction. She could accept that as a king, Su Cheng had his minor flaws and quirks.

But she could never accept that the arrow that slew the god had been shot from behind her back.

More painful than her wounds was Su Cheng's question: "What did I promise you?"

All she wanted to know now was when Su Cheng had become this person…

But their last meeting had been three years ago. She truly hadn't expected that woman, who should have been executed long ago, was still alive and sitting beside Su Cheng.

"The second pair of Divine Heavy Armor units—8,736 men—all killed in action."

"The anti-air heavy armored units transferred from Yehe: 4,356 personnel. 3,037 killed, 27 severely wounded, the rest missing in action."

"The 97th Division pulled from Mirror Lake—all killed."

"By the end of the battle at Kumu, only two hundred men remained."

"My esteemed Lord, do you realize how many lives your single command has cost?"

"My entire 170,000-strong army collapsed across all fronts in just three days. Those bastards' claws have already breached the air defense perimeter of Soul-Grasping City!"

Bingling's voice trembled. The examples he cited were far from the full extent of the disaster.

"Perhaps you and this bunch of useless fools never even considered them human."

"But in my eyes, you lot are the swine and dogs—beasts worse than swine and dogs!"

With the entire front in dire straits, Bingling personally led thirty-five thousand troops to reinforce the front lines. Yet, as soon as they entered Linglang Valley, they fell into an ambush.

But that wasn't the worst of it. The worst was that Bingling had been struck by the Godslayer Arrow.

Such a weapon could never harm the Godslayer King from the front—the trigger had been pulled from behind Bingling.

"I've already paid for my misjudgment, Su Cheng. Isn't it time you paid for your foolishness too?"

"Otherwise, how do you expect me to face those dead children?"

The hand gripping the knife hilt slowly raised. To Bingling, Su Cheng's silence was an admission of guilt—rotten to the core.

Yet often, even beasts find followers.

Xiao Ai was like that. Xun Ye was like that too.

Her presence matched Bingling's in intensity. While Xunye and Bingling weren't exactly close, they were certainly acquainted.

As the Book of Atonement blocked the blazing blade of the Redemption Angel, the Queen of Space arrived.

"Xun Ye, this is none of your business. You'd best not stand in my way!"

"Bingling, I think you should calm down. Don't do anything you'll regret."

Xun Ye's tone was unexpectedly gentle. Even though Bing Ling was no match for her now, she rarely showed such temperament—though perhaps it depended on who she was speaking to.

Everyone knew Bingling's temper—she never gave anyone face, not then and certainly not now.

"I am perfectly calm. Never in my life have I been as calm as I am today!"

"Bingling, listen to me. Go back first. You won't hurt him like this. You'll only end up hurting yourself."

But Su Cheng seemed to relish the drama, even striking up a conversation with the goddess beside him about who was stronger—Bingling or Xun Ye…

"I'd say Xun Ye has the edge. After all, Bingling's injured now, right?"

"You feel sorry for him?"

"Why would I? I only care about you~"

"How can we know without a fight?"

The moment those words fell, Su Cheng spoke without hesitation: "Xun Ye, don't disappoint me. Kill her."

If Bingling hadn't heard it with her own ears, she wouldn't have believed such a thing possible.

She actually loved a man like this.

"My Lord!"

In an instant, another figure crashed into the center of the Council Hall.

It was a wildcat, resembling Ye He's daughter with snow-white hair—Xue'er, Bingling's attendant.

She appeared before Bingling like a flash of lightning, swiftly pulling her to safety.

Xun Ye was right—in Bing Ling's current state, she couldn't possibly kill Su Cheng.

It was an impossible task to begin with, and now Xue'er—whom she cherished as her own daughter—had arrived.

If she lived, the two of them might still escape unscathed. But if she died, Xue'er would never make it out of the inner city alive…

"My lady, Xue'er will take you back. Let's go home, shall we?"

But Su Cheng seemed determined not to let Bingling leave. In this game, Bingling had been utterly defeated.

"Xun Ye, what are you waiting for?"

She hadn't come seeking death. She only wanted to know why.

Su Cheng had clearly promised her…

Xun Ye knew full well Su Cheng couldn't live without Bing Ling. Though Su Cheng showed no signs of weakness, she didn't believe he'd truly become a fool.

If asked why, it was because her beloved Xiao Ai showed no sign of life.

Xiao Ai would never allow Su Cheng to become that kind of person—it wasn't hard to understand.

"My Lord, if she dies, who will help you defend the city?"

Su Cheng sneered, "Even if Bing Ling dies, there'll still be the Fire Spirit, Water Spirit, Wind Spirit—in short, things won't stop working without her! Kill her! I'm actually curious now—which one of you two is stronger~"

Hearing this, Bingling truly gave up all hope.

She pushed Xue'er aside, slowly raised the Angel of Atonement, and knelt on one knee.

"The current Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Army, Bingling, pays her respects to Your Highness."

Full Drive Liberation was the mandatory ritual for audience, though she was barely holding on.

Blood seeped from her lower abdomen, trickling down her thigh. Even stained, the crimson dance skirt showed little trace of the blood.

The crimson droplets never reached the wildly dancing carpet below; powerful spiritual energy blew them away mid-air.

Seeing this, Xue'er knelt on one knee behind Bingling, though it was not her original intention.

"Bingling is unworthy. At nine years old, I joined the army and fought in campaigns across the land. Fortunately, I gained the favor of the Fifth King, who entrusted me with numerous military affairs."

After the Battle of Soul-Seizing City, the world hailed me as a hero. Later, I was bestowed the title of God-Slaying King. Yet I know these are mere illusions—empty titles meant to reassure the people."

"Holding such a crucial position, Bingling strives to repay the Lord's kindness and trust. Every moment is spent treading on thin ice, diligently and cautiously carrying out every task."

"Bingling's talents are limited and his learning shallow. He fears he is unfit for military affairs. The position of commander of the royal army should rightfully belong to one who is capable. Bingling remains gravely wounded and still requires recuperation. He fears he can no longer gallop across the battlefield."

"I can only seek other ways to repay Your Excellency's kindness. I humbly request permission to resign from my position as commander of the royal army."

It sounded like utter nonsense, yet it was all Bingling could muster.

By the end, the metallic taste in his throat grew more pronounced. Bingling knew he was nearing his limit.

"Did you see that? She chickened out~"

Su Cheng treated it like child's play. As Xiao Ai would say, he played the beast with such lifelike precision it was uncanny.

"But I won't let you off the hook, Xun Ye. Kill her~ And bring that white-haired one back to keep me company tonight~"

Xun Ye hesitated. Was it really necessary to go that far…?

How much Su Cheng loved Bingling—no one else knew, but she certainly did.

But she was the Blade of Execution. She didn't ask why when carrying out orders.

"Yes, I obey your will, my master."

Of course, it was all for show. Bing Ling wasn't foolish enough to stand there waiting to die; she'd already fled with Xue'er.
