Chapter 016: Getting Used to This Scheming, Wicked Woman!
Ye Zhen admitted that every ounce of guilt she'd carried her entire life had been concentrated into these few seconds.
Her face flushed crimson as she mechanically completed Ye Fuli’s demands, then stiffly turned her neck and walked away.
Aaaah…!
She wanted to run away so badly!
This solitary confinement was pure torture.
o(╥﹏╥)o…
Ye Fuli noticed her distinctly unnatural expression and successfully misinterpreted it as the silent fury of someone humiliated.
Ye Fuli laughed, her voice tinged with mockery: "Is this little thing really enough to make the beloved daughter of the Ye family suffer so much?"
"Sigh."
Ye Zhen sighed, gazing skyward, unwilling to speak.
What could she possibly do with this frail, petite loli body?
Even if her mind was filled with such thoughts, they could only remain thoughts!
"I'm ready. Help me zip up now."
Ye Fuli finished her business, her arm naturally draping over Ye Zhen's shoulder.
The scent of the other girl's body made Ye Zhen feel a bit dizzy.
Dazed, she finished assisting Ye Fuli, supporting her as they stepped out of the women's restroom.
On the surface, their relationship seemed to have improved slightly, but in reality…
"Alright, you can sit over there. Keep your distance from me." Ye Fuli was the type to turn on a dime.
She pulled the blanket over herself again.
Sitting beside her bed, Ye Zhen gazed at the pale forehead peeking out from beneath the covers and the strands of hair slightly dampened by sweat. An inexplicable flutter stirred in her heart once more.
All the bullying, the snide remarks, the sarcastic jabs—none of it could cast a shadow over Ye Zhen's heart in this moment.
This was absolutely terrifying!
How could she have grown so accustomed to this scheming, wicked woman so quickly…
Was she fundamentally a masochist?
Fuming, Ye Zhen abruptly stood up and strode toward the door, seemingly intent on proving she possessed none of those lowly traits.
But…
She hadn't gone far when she heard Ye Fuli calling her name.
Turning back, she saw Ye Fuli had already pulled back the covers. She snorted, "Go buy me a cup of black rice porridge. I'll transfer the money to you."
"Fine, fine, fine, Miss Princess."
Ding~
2,000 yuan received from Fortune Castle.
Ye Zhen stumbled back in shock at the sound of the notification.
Holy crap.
You're something else, reborn Feng Aotian!
Already displaying that wealthy swagger—keep it up, sweetie.
Ye Zhen had no intention of returning the money—what was hers was hers.
She was short on cash herself!
……
…
Inside the school's small shop.
Ye Zhen walked in and looked toward the small stall selling breakfast and snacks.
At this hour, the shop was filled with students from the elite class—all classmates of Ye Fuli.

"That Ye Fuli is so annoying!"
"Who says otherwise? My parents constantly use her grades to pressure me. It's driving me crazy!"
"What does she have to be proud of? Her parents are scum, so she must be trash too."
"Yeah! I saw her mom once—she looks like a skeleton. So creepy."
Hearing these words, Ye Zhen visibly froze.
Was Ye Fuli's reputation really this bad?
She remembered in the manga, everyone adored Ye Fuli. Her classmates were all proud to have someone like her in their class.
But now…
Why were so many people slandering her?
Ye Zhen kept a low profile. She walked through the crowd, bought a cup of black rice porridge, and turned to leave.
On her way back to the infirmary, Ye Zhen felt increasingly downcast.
She overheard more comments about Ye Fuli.
Girls envied her beauty and grades, even cursing her under their breath. Boys secretly shared dirty jokes about her. As for the teachers, they only discussed how much praise having such a student could bring them, and how many bonuses they could score.
"Hey, Senior Ye Zhen?"
At the corner of the flowerbed, Ye Zhen encountered the blond-haired boy carrying a basketball on his way to PE class.
Huang Mao wore an innocent smile, appearing genuinely pure-hearted, but his conversation with Bai Ruoting had already exposed his true nature.
Huh?
What true nature?
A scumbag's true colors, that's what.
Ye Zhen couldn't be bothered to engage him, offering only a perfunctory smile before turning to leave—only to be stopped once more.
"What is it, Junior Huang Li?"
His tone remained polite, but the hostility was palpable.
The blond-haired guy leaned closer. "I'd like to chat with you, senior. Preferably exchange contact info or something."
Ye Zhen replied coldly, "I don't think that's necessary."
The blond guy raised an eyebrow. "You're my ideal type."
He edged closer still, closing the distance to a wall-dunk.
Then, with a sharp snap, he braced one hand against the wall and looked down at Ye Zhen.
"Senior, forgive me for being so direct… Ow!"
Ye Zhen stomped down hard on his instep, grinding it twice. Seizing the moment while he winced in pain, she swiftly wrenched his arm away and bolted off like the wind.
What the hell~
When dealing with scumbags who tried to pull this kind of sleazy move, Ye Zhen showed no mercy whatsoever.
By the time she reached the infirmary, she was panting heavily.
"Here, I bought it. It's still hot!"
Ye Fuli frowned as she took the black rice porridge Ye Zhen handed her.
She tilted her head slightly, studying Ye Zhen. "What happened?"
"Nothing! Just ran into some creep trying to pull something shady. I took care of him."
Ye Zhen stood with her hands on her hips, looking quite proud.
With that explanation, Ye Fuli didn't press further.
But with her sharp mind, she quickly pieced it together. Who could possibly lay a hand on Ye Zhen?
Besides that damn yellow-haired guy…
There was no one else it could be.
Ye Fuli silently added another grievance to Huang Li's list of offenses, resolving to settle both old and new scores with him later, making him taste the full bitterness of his deeds.
After all, Ye Zhen had been working on her behalf, representing her dignity. How could she allow anyone to trample on her face?
"Your hair's coming loose. Sit down."
"Ouch."
Ye Zhen obediently sat down beside her bed.
Ye Fuli opened the nearby drawer, retrieved a comb, undid the small hair tie in Ye Zhen's hair, and began brushing it with one hand.
"Ouch~ That tickles!"
"Don't move."
After finishing the combing, Ye Fuli realized it was impossible to tie up her hair with just one hand.
So she tried directing Ye Zhen, teaching her how to tie her own hair.
Ye Zhen studied her messy strands in the mirror, occasionally stealing glances at Ye Fuli reflected behind her.
She wasn't too slow to pick things up, and after a few demonstrations, she got the hang of it.
Ye Fuli's hair had already fallen loose again, so she sat up, turning her back to Ye Zhen. She let Ye Zhen put her newly learned skills to use and tie her hair up.
"If I tie it badly, you can't laugh at me,"
Ye Zhen said tentatively, reaching out her hand.
The jet-black, lustrous hair fell into her hands in a heavy, weighty mass.
Ye Zhen loved the scent of her shampoo and cherished this intimate closeness.
"All done."
She tied up her hair in a few quick motions, then sat back at a safe distance.
"By the way, Ye Fuli, will anyone be home tonight?"
Meeting Ye Fuli's strange gaze, Ye Zhen plucked up her courage and continued, "Don't get me wrong! I mean, if no one's home, wouldn't it be inconvenient for you? You'd need someone to take care of you, right?"
Ye Fuli said nothing, only lowering her head to adjust her collar.
"I want to take care of you! I'm volunteering. Think of it as… well, think of it as my way of making it up to you!"
Ye Zhen's voice grew louder as she spoke.
"I know you probably think I'm useless and annoying, but…"
Before she could finish, Ye Fuli cut her off. "Enough. You don't need to grovel like this! Do you really think a few words from you will make me feel sorry for you?"
Those words deflated the courage Ye Zhen had painstakingly gathered.
She sat back down, feigning indifference, and gave a forced chuckle. "Just pretend I never said anything."
At that moment, she couldn't tell if her sadness stemmed from the hopelessness of her mission or the repeated rejection by the girl she idealized.
All she knew was that for the foreseeable future, she wouldn't have any extra courage to spare.
"Tonight I have company at home. Tomorrow and the day after, I'm free."
Ye Fuli rubbed her temples.
She felt like she must be running a fever—or had gone completely mad—to feel such deep pity for Ye Zhen.
"You can come over, but you must stay quiet and absolutely not cause any trouble for me. Understand?"
"Mm!"
The little girl's eyes lit up instantly.
Ye Fuli looked into those eyes brimming with expectation, and her heart sank once more.
How hateful that look was…
That look would eventually rob her of her rational judgment.
