Chapter 066: Wake Her Up, or Not?
Rose Resort.
Ye Zhen tried every attraction here, watched a free maid show, and finally satisfied, she happily left the park. She found a spot where everyone was camping and pitched her tent.
After a quick wash, she crawled into the tent.
Lay down, stretch out, roll over~
Bliss.
"Hehe, what a joy."
Her decade-long illness in her previous life had filled her with curiosity about the outside world.
She loved feeding fish, playing with soap bubbles like kids do, and even yearned to try thrilling rides like pirate ships, roller coasters, and haunted houses.
But considering she was all alone, with no one to cling to when scared, she gave up on those dreams.
"This life of mine—it's worth it."
[Host, aren't you being a bit too easily satisfied?]
The slacker's system emitted an incredulous voice.
Ye Zhen snorted and said, "Tell me, what is the purpose of human struggle and hard work?"
[To rise to the top and become someone above others, of course.]
Ye Zhen shook her head and said with feigned profundity, "It's so that one day, you can lie back comfortably like this and wallow in laziness to your heart's content!"
[Σ(⊙▽⊙"a]
Ye Zhen found this amusing and couldn't resist lecturing the dog system: "Look at yourself—you're a useless little thing. I've already accepted your mediocrity and incompetence. You should accept it too. Just slack off like me—wouldn't that be wonderful?"
The system fell into deep thought.
Was she insulting it?
Ye Zhen continued, "Of course, if you ever evolve into one of those cool systems—like a check-in system, a god-tier system, or a genius system… then remember: 'If fortune favors you, don't forget your old friend!' Make sure to steal plenty of good stuff for me. That way, our
love-hate relationship
won't have been in vain."
The system fell completely silent.
It felt like Ye Zhen was being downright unreasonable.
What kind of host doesn't put in the effort themselves, just hoping the system will do all the work?
What a hopelessly lazy, useless cutie!
Pop—
Ye Zhen actually opened a bottle of champagne and raised it to the air for a toast.
For safety's sake, he only took a light sip.
Then she filled the empty glass to the brim with Sprite.
"To freedom, cheers!"
"To giving up, cheers!"
Wuhu~
……
……
Midnight.
Half-asleep, Ye Zhen was jolted awake by an overwhelming urge to pee.
She reluctantly got up, yawning as she unzipped the tent flap and crawled out.
A communal restroom stood nearby, where she intended to relieve herself.
Still half-asleep, her hands instinctively grasped at thin air. This jolted her slightly awake. With a regretful "tsk," she lowered her hands and reluctantly squatted over the pit.
"Ugh…"
After taking care of business, she yawned and made her way back to the camping area.
Upon reaching her destination, she lifted the tent flap, crawled inside, and collapsed onto the ground, falling instantly asleep.
Having secretly followed Ye Zhen for most of the day, Ye Fuli, who was wide awake at this hour, suddenly felt movement beside her. Her eyes snapped open, and she instinctively reached under her pillow for the dagger.
When she recognized who it was beside her in the dim streetlight, her body froze completely.
Ye Zhen?!
Ye Zhen slept soundly, her eyelashes fluttering lightly, a faint flush of sleepiness on her cheeks.
Her long hair fell loosely from Ye Fuli's ear, nearly brushing Ye Zhen's face. She quickly grabbed the end of the strand.
The loose straps of her nightgown had slipped down a bit.
Ye Fuli's face darkened as she stared at Ye Zhen, who had suddenly crawled into her tent. A hundred ways to torment her flashed through her mind in an instant.
A prey that walks into the trap should be prepared!
But in the end, she did nothing. She simply remained in that half-risen posture, watching the soundly sleeping, utterly defenseless girl.
Should she wake her? Or not?
If she did wake her, how should she do it?
Ye Fuli stared at her delicate neck and decided strangling her awake probably wasn't a good idea.
Then what? Kick her awake?
Ye Fuli looked at her curled-up form and realized that one kick might be lethal—and then there’d be no more fun to be had.
After hesitating for a long while, she still couldn't think of a particularly good solution.
Ye Fuli slowly lay back down, staring blankly at the dark tent ceiling.
Inside the tent, only Ye Zhen's slightly heavy breathing could be heard.
Moments later, Ye Fuli felt a weight on her leg. Ye Zhen had draped her leg over Ye Fuli, wrapped her arms around her waist, and nuzzled her hair.
Ye Fuli instantly recalled the days she’d used her as a pillow…
But the feeling now was completely different!
A storm raged through Ye Fuli's mind.
She decisively rose, lifting Ye Zhen with the gentlest motion and carrying her out of the tent.
Their tents were actually completely different, even down to their colors—one black, the other dark green.
How could Ye Zhen possibly have such a big heart to get lost?
The answer to that question became clear after Ye Fuli returned her to her tent.
Ye Zhen truly slept like the dead.
Even being moved to another tent elicited no reaction whatsoever!
How could someone so cunning dare to wander around with nothing but a tent and a rickety old box?
Ye Fuli was nearly laughing in exasperation at her audacity.
"I'll be damned if I don't see how long this brave soul can last out here."
A kitten that won't be tamed needs to learn a lesson through hardship before it learns to cling and obey.
Ye Fuli's mindset shifted. She no longer felt the urge to drag her back and lock her in the dungeon.
After all, she had plenty of time to keep observing Ye Zhen.
Shortly after returning to her tent, Ye Fuli decided to dismantle it. She didn't want Ye Zhen to discover the setup in the morning and end the game prematurely.
"I'll wait for you to surrender, Ye Zhen."
……
…
The next morning.
After a night of nightmares, Ye Zhen woke up and immediately covered her face.
"Aaaah! Damn it!"
She had dreamed of sharing a tent with Ye Fuli—and worse, mistaking Ye Fuli for a pillow.
"It's over, it's all over! Ye Fuli is terrifying! She actually invaded my dreams—tormenting me not just during the day, but now at night too."
"This place must have terrible feng shui!"
"I gotta get outta here fast."
After venting her frustrations, Ye Zhen decisively got up, packed her tent, and prepared to leave this ominous place.
As she boarded the bus to the next attraction, Ye Zhen received a message from a contact labeled "He Ying": "Aren't you scared sleeping alone in the wilderness at night?"
Ye Zhen snorted and replied, "Not scared at all. I always pick places with great security."
Beep-beep-beep—
"Aren't you scared that one day you'll wake up to find Ye Fuli waiting outside your tent?"
A sudden flicker of unease washed over Ye Zhen, and a faint blush crept onto her cheeks.
Well, she was a little scared of that.
But!
She kept her whereabouts so well hidden and moved locations frequently—how could Ye Fuli possibly ambush her?
The thought made her feel a bit cocky again.
She typed her reply decisively.
"Ha! Ha! What's so great about ambushing me outside the tent? If she's got the guts, let her come inside the tent and try it."
